P.G. SIX
Old Man on the Mountain single version b/w High, Low and In Between (Townes Van Zandt)
(AMI017)
Released in late 2002 as a limited edition seven-inch, this single came one year after the release of the P.G. Six debut album, ‘Parlor Tricks and Porch Favorites.’ That album garnered serious critical accolades from The Wire, Mojo, Magnet, Sound Collector, Alternative Press, Opprobrium, Your Flesh and ended up on listening piles and year-end lists of some of most discerning of music critics. This single served as a critical connector between the first album and what was to come.
“Old Man on the Mountain” was a live favorite at the time and was ultimately included on Pat’s second album, ‘The Well of Memory’. Track two was the single’s b-side and is one of our favorite P.G. Six cover songs. It is a beautiful version of Townes Van Zandt’s “High, Low and In Between” from the record of the same name released in 1972. The cover was exclusive to the single and we are happy to make it available digitally for the first time.
